Weekly Challenge #195: "Turning Old into New"

Welcome fellow tanglers, seasoned and newbies! This week's Diva Challenge is hosted by Sandy Hunter, CZT:  Quite simply - if the pattern is grid-based make it freeform and visa-versa, while trying to keep the basic elements.

I quite enjoy this idea as I recently used Nancy Newlin's, CZT pattern JaJazz.  Nancy offered variations that included border, straight line and "released from the grid".   Link for the original pattern - Tangle Patterns - JaJazz  .  Helen Williams also offered a lovely freeform variation of Well (official Zentangle® pattern):  her link: a little lime - look for Well!

Bijou tile using JaJazz "released from the grid"

I decided to use Yew-Dee by Peg Farmer, CZT - link for the original pattern Tangle Patterns Yew-Dee

I believe I kept the basic elements and kept it simple at this time.  I thoroughly enjoyed this week's challenge and this concept.  I will continue to keep working at this! Thank you, Sandy.  Here is this week's entry (first draft):

Tangle: Yew-Dee:  3.5" square tile

Updated 6:15 PM:  Cyme (official Zentangle® pattern) in a grid - (first draft):

Tangle: Cyme - Bijou Tile

If you celebrate this holiday, I would like to wish you and yours a lovely Thanksgiving.  I would also like to thank all of you extremely talented tanglers (you are an inspiration) who have visited and shared such lovely, eloquent and gracious comments.  This is a wonderful group and I am happy to be a part of it.  Happy tangling!

  2. The yew-dee is my favorite...it looks so different in a free form version. I'll have to learn more about Jajazz...it looks interesting! Very creative renderings of this weeks challenge.
