Zendala Dare #93 Snowflake Surprise

Unfortunately, last year I was only able to participate in a few of Erin's Dares.  Since she is taking a break, I thought I would take this opportunity to participate and will work my way backwards.

This is Zendala Dare #93 - Snowflake Surprise.  When I saw the template I immediately thought of the tangle-Japan Diamond by Laura Liu, CZT. Of course, a few liberties were taken with this tangle in order to make it fit into this template.     Wikipedia - Snowflake

#1. At this point, almost 2/3rds through, a decision was needed. Either leave it as is, or complete the template?  Even though this looked more "snowflaky,"  I decided to complete the template, but made a copy to post:
